Contrast Therapy
What is contrast therapy?
Contrast therapy is the therapeutic application of extremes of temperature to the body. This healing modality has been widely used for centuries. Early hydrotherapy practices involved using water as a medium for transferring heat or cold to the body and in Scandinavian countries, traditional saunas may be found alongside an ice cold lake.
At Hana our contemporary approach to contrast therapy consists of alternating between 15-20 minutes in our Clearlight infrared sauna heated to 70 degrees Celsius, and an immersion into ice cold water (6-7 degrees Celsius) for 1-4 minutes. This transition from hot to cold is then repeated and the treatment ends with a shower. The whole treatment takes 60 minutes.
