Also known as:

The Nurturer

Elements:

EARTH + WATER

About:

Kapha Dosha individuals have a predominance of the earth and water element, which is reflected in their full, soft features, and thick, cold, moist skin. You may also have a stocky build and a larger frame, as Kapha doshas have a tendency to be overweight. With retained water and earth elements, this isn’t a disadvantage because even though it may be harder for you to lose weight, it makes your hair, skin, and nails thick, smooth, and healthy. When Kapha is imbalanced, you have a tendency towards sleeping too much, fatigue, colds, congestion, and allergies. Mentally, Kapha is easy-going, fun-loving, and patient people.

They are logical thinkers that don’t rush into decision making, so they often become the root or pillar for many Vata or Pitta Dosha people. You like to speak and move slowly, and you have a grounded disposition that is not easily shaken. You have so many good qualities being a Kapha dosha, you are warm-hearted with a steady mind, but you need to add more fire into your life because you are prone to becoming sluggish or even depressed.

In general, as a Kapha person, you are calm, reliable, and have a grounded nature that makes you an ideal manager, nurturer, caretaker, and team leader.

KAPHA BALANCING AFFIRMATION

How to balance your Kapha Dosha

What to do?

- Favour warm, cooked, and hot food and beverages, like licourice tea before bed.

- Eat more spicy, fire inducing foods.

- Introduce daily exercises, like circuit training, cycling, running, or vinyasa yoga.

- Wear warm clothes that keep your body warm, as you have a problem with circulation and may often get cold fingers and toes.

- Have warm baths or showers that bring up the body’s temperature.

- Add cinnamon and/or black pepper to your food and beverages to increase your metabolism and speed up the digestion process.

- Set monthly goals and tasks which will push you out of your comfort zone, as you are known to be more pragmatic than spontaneous.

- Seek stimulation.

- Follow a regular daily routine, ideally awakening before 6 a.m. each morning.

- Avoid taking naps during the day.

What not to do?

- Try staying clear of cold environments, as your body generally already has circulation issues, so the warmer you can stay, the better.

- Try to avoid cold drinks, frozen desserts, such as ice cream, popsicles, and frozen yogurt.

-Avoid large quantities of food, especially at night, as they slow down digestion.

- Avoid oily, cold, dense foods, especially foods that are sweet or salty.

- Limit meat consumption, as this weighs you down and slows down your digestion.

- Learn to say ‘no’ to people that lean on you for emotional support and instead work on how you can live a more inspired life yourself.
